For whatever reason, Royce's condition immediately improved at the adoption kennel.
He was however considered unadoptable because of his age and the adoption people
reconciled themselves to keeping him in the kennel indefinetely as their mascot.
That was not to be, and Royce was immediately adopted by another couple who could not
bear to think of an old greyhound living his last days out as an adoption center mascot.
They welcomed him into their home with three other greyhounds and an assortment of other
pets, did a full medical on him and got him on antibiotics to treat his gum disease.
He was there only eight months before circumstances forced them to look for homes for
all their pets. A local woman found out about this family's efforts to place their dogs
and posted to the Greyhound List which is how we heard about him. We contacted them and
discovered we were the only people inquiring about their eldest dog. That was a year
ago now.
Happy Got'cha Jack!
I look at the two homes that gave Jack up for adoption and I FAULT NEITHER ONE. Jack's
first home really formed who he is today, and I feel that such a balanced and secure dog could
only come into being by having had a very good life filled with love. What changed in July 2003?
Who knows. I don't usually phrase things in religious terms, but "Thy will be done" works
for me here.
Jack's second home gave him love and caring. They refused the idea of a foster home and
took a lot of time to find each pet a permanent new home after their changed circumstances
made them realize that they had to make difficult choices for what was best for their pets.
